Minorities and Philosophy, UAlbany Chapter
About
UAlbany Minorities and Philosophy (UAlbany M.A.P.) is a recognized chapter of the North American umbrella organization “Minorities and Philosophy”. The aim of organization is to examine and address issues of minority participation in academic philosophy. Our chapter is devoted to increasing participation of underrepresented groups in philosophical discourse inside and outside of the classroom. To that end, we aim to host philosophically themed informal events such as film nights where students and faculty can interact. We will host symposia where we invite scholars and researchers who work on topics of interest to M.A.P. members. We will foster communication between students and faculty members regarding the departmental culture and climate. We will create a forum to discuss the current events regarding diversity and inclusiveness in the discipline. We will promote mentorship of undergraduate students by graduate students in philosophy. We will initiate and support educational outreach efforts to the local community, in particular to local high schools. We host monthly meetings to take up routine agenda-setting and administrative tasks.
