Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Incorporada

About

As we embark upon our 31st year of Solidaridad, Inspiracion, y Amistad, Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc. strives to travel through new channels of involvement in the Latino community while reinforcing our commitment to our philanthropies. We look forward to increasing our presence on the national front, and we encourage all members in and outside of the Hermandad to take an active stance in our community and pave the way for generations to come. In the mid-'80s, a group of women from 4 different universities in New York set out to create an organization that would meet their needs, help their communities, unite all women, and upholds a set of distinct goals. Although the sisterhood's history can be traced back to 1985 in Troy, NY, the sorority was founded on September 29, 1990. Thirteen inspiring women from SUNY Albany, SUNY Stonybrook, SUNY New Paltz, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute founded our precious and rare Hermandad.

On Sept 29, 1990, 13 lovely ladies founded an organization so precious and rare that would stand for commitment, unity, service, and sisterhood... That Organization is known as Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc.

In 1991 the Alpha chapter was established at SUNY Albany. Since its establishment, the chapter has grown and thrived all while withholding the goals of the organization. SIA's at Albany have always prided themselves on their contributions to the community. The chapter does various community services throughout the Albany area such as The YMCA, Homeless Shelters, animal shelters, and senior citizens centers.

The chapter also enjoys hosting educational and social programs on various issues from childhood memories, gun violence, child hunger, and many more. Education is very important to the chapter and its sisters. The chapter is composed of strong and dedicated women, who strive to empower all women, both within and outside the Hermandad.

The chapter competes in stroll competitions, host fundraisers, and other greek events.

Please support the chapter as it continues to provide service and education to the Albany community.
